ANDREA ZITTEL
Lay of My Land
September 9 – December 11, 2011
Curator: Richard Julin
Andrea Zittel is an American artist most closely associated with remarkable utopian structures she calls living systems. For over two decades she has been creating minimal self-sufficient dwelling spaces in which daily activities such as sleeping, eating, cooking and socializing are transformed into acts of art. The fall exhibition at Magasin 3 focuses on ideas related to A-Z West, her studio and home in the Californian desert.

PERFORMANCEXHIBITION
Spring 2011
Curator Richard Julin
During Spring 2011 Magasin 3 invited a number of artists to produce work that lands somewhere between performance and exhibition. First in line was Erik Aalto with “Antidote”, a performance and concert that segued into an exhibition. Later in the season choreograper and Cullberg grand awardee Björn Säfsten presented a completely new version of his latest piece “Corduroy”. This was followed by the artist duo Lundahl & Seitl with the work “The Infinite Conversation”, produced for Magasin 3.

THRICE UPON A TIME
11 SEP – 12 DEC 2010
The fall of 2010 marks the opening of the unprecedented exhibition ‘Thrice upon a time’. This is the largest exhibition to date with artworks taken exclusively from the Magasin 3 collection. It is presented in three parallel chapters featuring a total of 202 works, all of which have not previously been shown at Magasin 3. 66 artists ranging from Absalon to Zetterquist fill the exhibition spaces with photography, drawing, painting, film and sculpture. Key works by established artists are shown alongside pieces by artists who have not previously exhibited in Sweden. Together these works give an unsurpassable insight into the Magasin 3 collection. In conjunction with the exhibition we have published a magazine, which is handed out to all museum visitors.
Curators: Richard Julin, Tessa Praun and Elisabeth Millqvist.

TOM FRIEDMAN
Up in the Air
5 FEB – 6 JUNI 2010
Tom Friedman is an inquiring artist who follows his own precise logic and creates astonishing objects out of everyday materials. Like an alchemist he extracts the essentials of a thing and then proceeds to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. Friedman encourages us to question how we see and what we consider to be real. An artistic sensibility that is at once serious, playful and profound. Read more

MARIA NEPOMUCENO
Always in a Spiral
23 JAN – 6 JUNE 2010
The Brazilian artist Maria Nepomuceno allows her sculptures to spread across the exhibition space like vegetation in a mysterious garden. She uses rope and necklaces as raw material for her work, letting them take on their natural spiral form. For Nepomuceno the metaphor for the body and nature is central. She describes rope as a line, an umbilical cord, and every bead as a fertile point and a possible beginning that can be multiplied infinitely. Curator: Elisabeth Millqvist. Read more
SOL LEWITT
Seven Wall Drawings
2 OCT – 6 JUNE 2010
LeWitt was a pioneer among the Minimalists and Conceptual artists who were so groundbreaking at the end of the 60s and beginning of the 70s. With his ‘wall drawings’ rendered directly onto the wall LeWitt changed our concept of what art is – its appearance and who creates it. He succeeded in the challenging task of combining art that puts the idea first with an exciting visual form and continues to be a central figure for young artists to this day. Curator: Elisabeth Millqvist. Read more

TAL R
Old Confused
2 OCT – 13 DEC 2009
From October 2, Magasin 3 is hosting an exhibition with Tal R, born 1967 in Israel and based in Denmark. Tal R is Denmark’s most widely recognized contemporary painter today has reached considerable international acknowledgement. His art is brightly colored with a deliberately naïve, abstract quality and his exhibitions become a voyage of discovery into a universe with a very direct expressiveness, which celebrates playfulness, spontaneity, imagination and creativity. Curator: Richard Julin. Read more

SMADAR DREYFUS
5 SEPTEMBER – 10 NOVEMBER 2009
London-based Israeli artist Smadar Dreyfus is interested in how meaning is both created and reconstructed at the intersection of the aural and the visual. A decisive characteristic of Smadar Dreyfus’ way of working is that she does not produce documentaries despite often using real-life recorded materials. The exhibition presents three of the artist’s works, the most recent of which is a large-scale installation entitled Mother’s Day. Through the alternating sound recordings and silent images the viewer is placed in a position where one participates in, and becomes a part of an experience beyond spectatorship. Read more
