James Turrell
Film screening of the documentary "Skyspaces" about Turrell's project Roden Crater
Thursday 29 November at 7 pm in the café (30 min)
A guided viewing of Turrell's work "Dawning" will take place at 6.30 pm.

"Dawning" (James Turrell, 1994) is the only work in the collection on permanent display. Turrell’s art explores light and space and aims to reach the viewer intuitively. His works provide a sensory encounter for the viewer while also allowing us to experience and relate, in an active sense, to our own sense of vision. Since the 1970s, Turrell has worked on one of the largest and most audacious artworks in the world – Roden Crater in Arizona, USA. Much of Turrell's previous work has led to and culminates in this project that has been a subject of discussion for decades. In this documentary we get to follow Turrell with his work in an extinct volcano where he aims to construct an illusion of the vault of the sky and the concave surface of the earth; a place in which the sun, the moon and the stars function as light sources illuminating a dramatic scene in which only our relationship to the sky is of importance.

Kallioinia concert on Friday 8–10pm (November 2)
Free entrance
Café and bar

Matti Kallioinen is the artist behind the installation “The Beautiful Robot”, which is on view outside Magasin 3 at present. Kallioinia is the name of the performance duo that Matti forms together with his brother Simon. Next week the act will make the journey from Berlin and Rotterdam respectively to Magasin 3 for an exclusive and much anticipated performance of their fantasy space-age electro music. The doors open at 8pm and the concert starts at 8.30pm.

“When we create our music it is like following a trail of images and emotions to places we have never been before. I want Kallioinia’s music to perform a kind of abstract puppet theatre inside the head of the listener. The visual element of our performance is a framework for the images and the stories generated by the music.” (Matti Kallioinen)

Film night on Thursday, October 6 at 7.30 pm
“Dandy” by John Bock (2006, 58 min)
Language: German with English subtitles

john bock john bock

John Bock takes part in this fall’s exhibition with the artwork “Im Atomeiterzins Konflikt mit einer EierstockCapitalSaint” from 2001. The artist is celebrated for his spectacular actions where theatre, lecture, video, installation art, and sculpture unite in an exceptional manner, often with comical and grotesque elements. In the film “Dandy”, Bock borrows techniques from established film genres and mixes historical drama with surreal fantasy.

“Dandy” was filmed at Chateau du Bosc – childhood home of the aristocratic artist Toulouse-Lautrec. Bock’s fictional character in the film – the 18th century aristocrat Monsieur Lautreament – is a hypochondriac dandy with obvious inspiration from Lautrec who gives himself to the search of true aesthetic perfection, which is epitomized in the creation of a machine for producing the perfect perfume. Bock portrays the troubled genius that endeavors to achieve perfection in every creative aspect he sets his mind to.

The film screening is free and will take place in the entrance of Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall at 7.30 pm. The exhibition closes at 7 pm as usual and the café will remain open until the film starts.
