Dan Wolgers

Stockholm , Sweden
1955

Dan Wolgers was born in 1955 in Stockholm, where he still works and lives. He got his education at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, where he was appointed professor in 1995.

In his art, Wolgers often uses everyday objects and ready-mades twisted by playfulness in a Dadaistic tradition and curiousness for the material and immaterial, questions both the arts, the art trade and what we consider fake and real. Wolgers’ art invites to reflection and his pieces are more often than not, of a provocative nature.

In 1992, Wolgers was invited to design the cover for Stockholm’s phonebook and chose to print his own name and phone number on it. After numerous phone calls from annoyed callers, Wolgers changed his number. Today the catalogue is sold at auctions and is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Wolgers has been exhibited at numerous reputable galleries and museum in Stockholm, and is one of the few Swedish artists whose art has been exhibited at the Louvre in Paris. Furthermore, he participated at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and his works can be found in collections such as Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Malmö Museum, Malmö, as well as in private collections.
