James Lee Byars

March 22 - July 5, 1992
Curator: David Neuman

The work Path of Luck featured in the exhibition consists of six pieces presented in individual cabinets. All the pieces are of a rare and beautiful African granite. Each section has its own individual title: Twelve Figures, The Two Figures, The Cross, The Discus, The Square Door, and The Sphere Door. The glass and wood cabinets are, according to the artist, inherited from Joseph Beuys. During the 1970s, James Lee Byars took part in Documenta 5, 6 and 7 in Kassel, and in four Venice biennales. James Lee Byars was born in the USA in 1932 and died in Cairo in 1997.
